24 CUPCAKES, 24 UNIQUE DESIGNS
If you're a professional cake decorator you'd be looking at the heading thinking "OH DEAR!". And yes, "OH DEAR!"it was. Actually, the email request for the cupcakes started off with "THIS MAY BE YOUR BIGGEST NIGHTMARE !~!".
Of course I was intrigued! I am always up for a cake challenge! The cupcake order was for a very lucky bride whose Maid of Honour (MOH) had the brilliant idea of having designs which meant something to the bride (Future MOHs, take note!). As I went through the list of 24 designs I thought that sounded OK: Chanel? Easy. Tiffany? Piece of cake.
Then as my eyes moved further down the list I saw "frog"...hmmm...."Malaysia flag"...woah...."Mini Cooper"...*sweat*
Ok, breathe. Just breathe.
I started to think I was in waaaayyyyyy over my head with this...but then I thought there was no way to see how far I can go with this if I don't push myself. Like with anything: fitness, sport, any skill or talent, one can only see how far they can go and one can only learn by stepping out of their comfort zone. In the words of one of my favorite actresses, Jennifer Aniston, "Everything you want in this world is just right outside your comfort zone".
So a step right outside my comfort zone I shall take!
And here they are! I thought it was the nicest idea to have the 24 designs represent things that meant something to the bride. For example the countries that she had lived in (that's the Peru flag by the way! Thank goodness for food pens that's all I can say!), her favorite things: music, the peace dove, high heels, dumplings, Chanel, Tiffany, LV, Burberry, Hello Kitty.
If your'e wondering what the frog meant to the bride it is a term of affection she calls her now-husband (so cute!). This little green guy got his 5 seconds of fame being featured in the wedding video that was played during the wedding dinner! It really made me feel a lil proud that my work got a little air time!
I was particularly happy to hear that the bride was super happy with her bridal tea party. I was told that as she went through each cupcake she squealed with delight. Makes me happy that my work makes other people happy :)
Hmm...probably the Tiffany Box...no, wait...the Marc Jacobs daisy....maybe the little frog...oooh but the little dog was cute as well! ARGH I can't decide!
So which one is YOUR favorite???
P.S. Thank you again to Jenny and Diana for thinking of me for the cupcakes!~ It was a pleasure to make them and I loved every minute of it (despite the initial heart stopping email!)
