Shanghai Part IV- Awfully Chocolate

DRUNK BY CHOCOLATE

Hello, readers! I've been looking forward to sharing this with you. As I gently pushed the last mud cake into my oven for next week's wedding I was reminded that I had to post about my daytime drunkenness in Shanghai. Drunkenness on chocolate that is...

"Awful" is probably not a word you'd want associated with your cafe. But it kinda makes up for it when Awfully Chocolate's chocolate cakes and goodies taste like heaven. I heard about this place before landing in Shanghai and couldn't wait to try it.

Snuggled in a little piazza area known as Wujiang Road (parallel to Nanjing Road in the area of Number 555 Nanjing Road), Awfully Chocolate is pretty new to Shanghai and its origins hail from Singapore. Started by a lawyer who just loved being in the kitchen (sounds familiar...teehee) Awfully Chocolate serves all the best of chocolate.

Check out the pics...and peeps, try not to lick the screen, OK? :)

The cafe doesn't boast a menu of 101 types of chocolate cakes and goodies but a few that they obviously do really well.  I loved the simple black and white decor with none of that Willy Wonka madness...which is comforting cos' you know that you're safe from some crazy-haired mad man jumping right out at you...I like to relax when I'm indulging in my chocolate.

We ordered a slice of their famous chocolate cake, swiss roll with butterscotch and a white chocolate cupcake. All of them were TO DIE FOR! Not crazy sweet and a delight to sink my teeth into, each cake contained the perfect proportion of the sweetness of sugar, bitterness of cocoa and the softness of sponge. Definitely nothing awful about that!

Didn't have any stomach room to try the truffles but I'm visiting Singapore in a few months. Hopefully I can drop by and get some truffles in one of their pretty boxes! Don't worry, I promise I'll share...the photos that is :)

Love & Peace,
Daphne
